The Blind Spot of Rules
Old Wang was known as a "rule-abiding person" in his community. He followed all the rules, always has. A new rule was posted in the community, stating that when walking in the community, one must walk on the white tiles; otherwise, a fine would be imposed.
Old Wang thought this rule was a bit strange, but since it was a rule, it should be followed. So, every time he went out, he carefully stepped on the white tiles. People in the community thought he looked like an actor stepping on plum blossom piles, stopping every step, afraid of stepping on the colored tiles next to them.
Initially, people in the community didn't pay much attention to this rule, but since someone was fined, everyone began to carefully walk on the white tiles. A unique scene appeared in the community, with people walking on the road like they were playing hopscotch, sometimes even arguing over who would get to walk on a white tile.
Old Wang thought that although the rule was a bit inconvenient, at least the community was in order. He felt that he was a model of rule-following and should be proud of it.
One day, Old Wang went out to buy groceries. He was still carefully stepping on the white tiles when suddenly, a child ran over and accidentally bumped into him. Old Wang stumbled and stepped onto a colored tile next to him.
"Fine!" A person wearing a security guard uniform immediately came over, holding a fine ticket in his hand.
Old Wang was anxious. He explained that it wasn't intentional, that he had been bumped by the child. But the security guard said that the rule was the rule. No matter the reason, anyone who stepped on a colored tile would be fined.
Old Wang had no choice but to pay the fine. He felt wronged in his heart. He had been following the rules, but he was fined because of an accident. It was so unfair.
He took the fine ticket back home. The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. He picked up a pen and wrote a line on the fine ticket: "Rules are made by people. If the rules are unreasonable, what's the point of following them?"
He posted this fine ticket on the community's bulletin board, and then, he did something that no one expected.
He took off his shoes, stepped on the colored tiles, and swaggered out of the community.
People in the community were stunned. They watched Old Wang's departing figure and began to think about the meaning of rules.
And Old Wang, he just wanted to prove with his actions that some rules were destined to be broken. Even if he was once the most rule-abiding person. He discovered that the blind spot of the rules existed within the rules themselves.
